ArgoAlert is UWF's way of notifying students, faculty and staff in case of an emergency. In the event of an emergency at the University
of West Florida, a combination of the below methods would be used to communicate
with the campus community. Methods utilized are dependent on the situation.
- Campus-Wide E-mail – Follow instructions
in the e-mail.
- Emergency Web site – Updates, announcements
and cancellations would be posted on this Web site. The site
would be readily accessible from uwf.edu and Argus.
- Fire Bell/Strobe Light – People should
evacuate the building and go to an assembly area.
- Siren/Loud Speaker System – Follow instructions
relayed over loud speaker system.
- Telephones – Emergency message broadcast
on all campus telephones. Follow the instructions in the message.
- Text Messages (SMS) and Instant Messages (IM) - All students, faculty and staff can sign-up to receive text messages (SMS) to their text messaging enabled mobile device and/or instant messages (IM) to a GoogleTalk IM account. Standard text messaging rates from the subscriber's mobile carrier will apply. Individuals should follow the instructions in the message.
- Verbal Messages – Spread by people in the
buildings.
- WUWF 88.1 FM – Emergency messages broadcast
on WUWF 88.1 FM.
- WUWF-TV – Emergency messages broadcast
on Cox Cable Channel Four.
Assembly Area
In the event of a building evacuation, building occupants should
move to an assembly area near the building's main entrance,
away from pathways and streets (which should be kept open for
emergency vehicles and personnel).
