Situated on the Gulf Coast in Pensacola, Fla., the University of West Florida has experience with disaster preparedness and response to hurricanes and tropical storms. In 2004, the university and the city of Pensacola were directly impacted by Hurricane Ivan, a powerful Category Three storm. Less than a year later, Pensacola was hit again by Tropical Storm Arlene (June 18), Tropical Storm Cindy (July 6), Hurricane Dennis (July 10) and impacted by Hurricane Katrina (August 29). Under the decisive and strong leadership of President John Cavanaugh, the university has become a national leader and frequently sought after resource on disaster preparedness. The following collection of materials document UWF's experiences before, during and after each storm.
